A Dry Film Thickness (DFT) meter—also commonly called a coating thickness gauge—is a non-destructive testing instrument used to measure the thickness of a dried paint, powder, or protective coating applied to a substrate.
Measuring dry film thickness is crucial across industrial manufacturing, automotive bodywork, marine maintenance, and civil construction. Applying too little coating risks early corrosion, rust, or aesthetic degradation; applying too much increases costs, lengthens drying times, and can cause cracking or peeling due to internal stress.
