The Harris 6290-VVC is a specialized, high-speed machine cutting tip designed specifically for automated and mechanized oxy-fuel cutting systems. Manufactured by The Harris Products Group, it is engineered for use with low-cost alternate fuel gases—primarily propane and natural gas—and must never be used with acetylene.
Design & Construction
The 6290-VVC features a two-piece design consisting of an inner brass insert and a durable outer shell.
- Chrome / Electroless Nickel Plating: The outer shell is plated to reflect radiant heat during heavy machine cutting operations. This reduces slag buildup and spatter adhesion while preventing internal overheating, significantly extending the tip’s lifespan.
- Internal Gas Mixing: The inner core utilizes precision-machined flutes to deliver a highly stable, uniform preheat flame pattern, allowing quick piercing and consistent travel speeds.
- VVC Divergent Bore: The "VVC" designation highlights its divergent orifice geometry. This structure accelerates the central cutting oxygen stream to supersonic speeds, producing narrow kerf widths, minimal dross, and smooth cut edges.
