Types of Safety Belts and Harnesses
- Single Waist Safety Belt: A simple strap around the waist equipped with a lanyard connection. Used primarily for restraint systems (preventing a worker from reaching a fall edge) rather than fall arrest, as arresting a fall using only a waist belt can cause severe internal injury.
- Full-Body Safety Harness: The standard for fall arrest systems (FAS). It distributes shock load forces across the shoulders, thighs, chest, and pelvis, significantly minimizing impact stress on the spine and internal organs during a fall.
- Work Positioning Belt: Features side D-rings designed to anchor a worker hands-free at an elevated position, typically used alongside a secondary fall-arrest lanyard.
- Retrieval/Confined Space Harness: Equipped with shoulder-mounted D-rings to allow vertical lifting during emergency rescues from tanks, manholes, or vaults.
