A whip check (or hose safety check cable) is a emergency safety restraint device used on high-pressure air, gas, steam, or liquid hose lines. If a hose coupling accidentally separates, breaks, or blows out under pressure, the sudden release of compressed air causes the free end of the hose to whip violently back and forth.
A whip check spans across the connection to choke the hose, containing the whipping motion and preventing catastrophic injury to workers or damage to surrounding machinery.
